Parish Leadership Appointed for St. Mary/St. Benedict Parish

Bishop George V. Murry, S.J., has appointed Deacon Randy Smith the Parish Leader for St. Mary/St. Benedict Parish in Canton. Reverend Thomas Kraszewski has been named the Canonical Pastor. Fr. Kraszewski will remain full-time resident pastor of St. Anthony/All Saints Parish in Canton. The Sacramental Minister(s) have not yet been determined. These appointments are effective September 23rd.

Deacon Randy has served at St. Joseph Parish in Massillon for 28 years in youth ministry, religious education, and various other ministries. He has been married to Lee Ann for 30 years. Deacon Randy was ordained to the permanent diaconate on September 14th, 2013. For the past four years, Deacon Randy has also served as the Associate Vocation Director for the Diocese of Youngstown and assists with seminarian development.

A Parish Leader is a deacon, religious, or lay man or woman who has been specifically trained to lead a parish without a resident pastor and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the parish. A Canonical Pastor is the priest assigned as pastor, though not in residence. The Canonical Pastor works closely with the Parish Leader to ensure that the pastoral and administrative care of the parish continues. The Sacramental Minister is the priest assigned to regularly celebrate the Sacraments with the parish community.
